U.S. Small Business Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman said the following regarding the shutdown of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) “to new loan guarantee requests, which has provided more than $ 798 billion in economic aid to small businesses and nonprofits across the country, keeping employees employed and helping businesses come back stronger than ever.
“The Paycheque Protection Program has provided more than 8.5 million small businesses and nonprofits with the lifeline they need to survive during a unique economic crisis. I’ve heard story after story from small business owners across the country about how P3 funds have helped them keep the lights on, pay their employees and give them hope, ”Guzman said. “At the same time, millions of underserved businesses – especially our smaller businesses and those owned by women and people of color – have been left out of first aid. I’m proud of the work we’ve done to start correcting these inequalities – in 2021, 96% of P3 loans went to small businesses with less than 20 employees. Going forward, we will continue to prioritize equity in all SBA programs and services.
